What is a 3D Model?

In 3D computer graphics, 3D modeling is the process of developing a mathematical representation of any surface of an object in three dimensions via specialized software. In order to make an object using any 3D printer or a CNC machine you need to have an 3D File created by a 3D Designer for the specific need.

The “Main Information” that our process requires is a three-dimensional computer model. This could be a solid model from a CAD package such as Solid-works / Rhino 3D / Inventure … etc   or it could be a CT or laser scan of a physical part.  If you are in need of assistance in creating any of these models, Lab 3D has both engineers and designers on staff that can assist you.

Designing “for 3D printing” requires specific skills in the field. Traditional CAD design is often not enough, or needs some tricks useful for the right finalization of the design.
